This wooden Palm Cross (one meant to be held in the palm of your hand for comfort and prayer) was given to Patrick shortly after he was diagnosed. Amazingly, at the age of three, he seemed to understand its significance immediately and has always kept it with him, especially in the hospital and even during outpatient procedures.
During one particularly difficult week in the hospital, Patrick was being
held in my mom’s arms and he started to talk about “God is bigger than the
ocean and bigger than the sky”. Mom explained that God made the world and
made him and loved him and that was why he felt better when he held the
cross. Patrick abruptly held the cross in front of mom’s face and, with
great fervor, said “God is in my cross”. We certainly felt God’s presence
in that room and in that cross.
We are thankful to Sellynn Ministries for providing the crosses and touched
by the fact that, after hearing the stories of Patrick and the cross, they
named it Patrick’s Cross.
